WASHINGTON– President Obama has turned the political world upside down after wearing flip-flops to his last world meeting, ushering in a new trend among government leaders who surprisingly took a liking to the president’s initial faux pas.
While on his 654th vacation in Hawaii, President Obama received an urgent message from Congress that there was a last minute meeting in Paris, France to discuss the ramifications of using recycled toilet paper inside world leaders’ personal bathrooms.
In a televised speech on the White House lawn, President Obama explained the reasoning for his fashion mistake, as well as his current approval rating, which has risen dramatically after the flip-flop incident.
“It actually was an accident,” said Obama, reading off the teleprompter. “I was vacationing in Hawaii with Michelle and I got an urgent text message from my boy Trey Gowdy stating that Francois Hollande in France was having an important meeting to discuss our new Toilet Paper Recycle bill, which was adopted by the rest of the world, other than in Saudi Arabia where they still prefer recycling their hands.”
After showing reporters his new pink flip-flops, Obama went on. “I hopped on Air Force One and headed to Paris. Funny thing, I put on my entire suit but forgot to take off the flip-flops. I went into the meeting with all the world’s top leaders looking like a poor-man’s Phil Collins. Imagine my chagrin when Angela Merkel tells me that I have prettier feet than she does.”
Once reporters calmed down after Obama told them his premeditated joke, the White House television screen behind him flashed numerous photos of world leaders wearing flip-flops.
“All the world’s top officials voted,” Obama started, “and we decided to make flip-flops mandatory. Once again, other than in Saudi Arabia where the men prefer to wear sandals, which simplifies the elimination of camel excrement.”
During the White House press conference, Obama showcased his new line of flip-flops that will be carrying his name and hitting Nike retail establishments by mid summer.
