WASHINGTON — Republicans across the country unveiled a bold new plan Monday to protect American workers from being replaced by foreign labor, assuring voters that while Democrats may replace Americans through illegal immigration, Republicans intend to replace them through entirely legal channels.
The announcement came as Republicans sought to draw a sharp distinction between their approach to immigration and that of Democrats, arguing that there is a tremendous difference between an American worker losing his job to someone who entered the country illegally and an American worker losing his job to someone who entered the country legally.
“The radical left wants to let undocumented immigrants sneak across the border and take American jobs,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott, parked in front of a banner reading Replace Americans With Legal Immigration. “Under our plan, American workers will be protected from illegal competition. If someone is going to take an American’s job, we believe they should at least have the proper visa.”
Republicans emphasized that their proposal would preserve the principle of putting American workers first while allowing businesses to continue bringing in qualified workers from around the world to fill positions currently occupied by Americans.
The Republican plan would also provide displaced American workers with the comforting knowledge that their replacements had undergone substantially more paperwork before taking their jobs.
At press time, Republicans were preparing legislation guaranteeing every American worker the right to be replaced by a legally authorized foreign worker, provided the replacement could produce sufficient documentation proving that the American worker had been replaced in accordance with all applicable laws.
