CORUSCANT — Anakin Skywalker, widely regarded as one of the most powerful and talented Jedi in the galaxy, was passed over for promotion to Jedi Master this week after the Jedi Council opted to fill its leadership positions with less qualified diversity candidates, sources confirmed Tuesday.
Despite demonstrating exceptional combat abilities, an unusually high Midichlorian count, and a proven record of successfully defeating enemies of the Republic, Skywalker was informed that he did not meet the Council’s criteria for advancement, with several members citing the importance of maintaining a diverse and inclusive leadership team.
“While Anakin is certainly an exceptionally gifted Jedi, we believe it’s important that our leadership reflect the diversity of the galaxy we serve,” said Jedi Master Mace Windu, who was among those who voted against Skywalker’s promotion. “We cannot simply hand out prestigious positions to the most powerful and qualified individuals. That would send the wrong message.”
Skywalker, who reportedly has more combat experience than several members of the Council combined, was particularly frustrated after learning that a number of Jedi with considerably lower Midichlorian counts and fewer battlefield accomplishments had already been granted the rank of Master.
Council members dismissed Skywalker’s complaints, noting that his repeated questioning of established Jedi policies raised concerns about his ability to work within a diverse organization.
At press time, Skywalker was reportedly being encouraged to attend several diversity and inclusion workshops to better understand why his qualifications alone were insufficient for advancement, while the Jedi Council began considering whether his increasingly vocal criticism of its hiring practices might make him a poor cultural fit for the Order.
