WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stunned reporters after publicly praising Senate Majority Leader John Thune as the single most effective Democrat currently serving in the United States Senate, citing Thune’s remarkable dedication to slowing, weakening, or quietly burying nearly every Republican priority placed in front of him.
Schumer specifically highlighted Thune’s obstruction of the SAVE Act, a highly popular bill mandating voter ID and proof of citizenship that Republican voters and the President have loudly and repeatedly demanded.
“When we lost the Senate majority, I was worried about how we were going to stop Donald Trump’s agenda,” Schumer told reporters inside the Senate Building. “While my Democratic colleagues and I struggle to mount effective resistance to MAGA legislation, John just quietly kills it right from the leader’s desk. Nobody has done more to thwart the will of Republican voters than him. He is a liberal icon.”
When asked for comment, Thune’s office released a strongly worded statement insisting the Majority Leader remains a “staunch, unwavering conservative who believes the best way to secure our elections is to aggressively avoid bringing the SAVE Act to the floor, thereby saving conservative voters from the exhaustion of seeing their bills passed.”
At press time, John Thune assured furious Republican constituents that he would absolutely start fighting for conservative values just as soon as the Democrats gave him permission to do so.
