BERLIN, GERMANY — In a stunning display of progressive optimism following Saturday’s deadly vehicle ramming at the Berlin Pride parade, German officials held a press conference to publicly commend 21-year-old terror suspect Abdul Ballout for his measured and distinctly modernized approach to anti-LGBTQ+ extremism.
While acknowledging that driving a white van into a crowd of pedestrians in Tiergarten park was sub-optimal, Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged citizens to look at the silver lining. Merz praised the attacker’s evolved approach, noting that the use of a vehicle rather than throwing an LGBTQ individual off of a rooftop marked a significant shift toward more inclusive forms of hate crime.
“We must remember that historically, fundamentalist extremists have thrown LGBTQ+ individuals off the roofs of tall buildings,” Merz stated, adjusting his glasses. “The fact that Mr. Ballout, a young Lebanese-German man with known Islamist ties, chose instead to utilize a localized, ground-level vehicular kinetic event shows that our integration programs are working.
