WASHINGTON– In a shocking press conference, the FBI announced today that after a grueling three-year, $47 million investigation, they have finally pinpointed the elusive character Waldo to “somewhere on the page” in a 1987 edition of the popular children’s book series. The breakthrough comes as a major relief to the agency, which had been criticized for its inability to locate the bespectacled wanderer, or anyone else for that matter, despite his distinctive striped shirt and bobble hat.
“We’re thrilled to finally have a lead,” said Director Kash Patel, adjusting his eyeballs. “Our team of expert analysts has poured over every inch of that page, and we’re 99% sure he’s… well, not in the bottom left corner. Or the top right. But definitely on the page. Somewhere.”
The investigation began in 2023 after a concerned parent reported Waldo missing from her child’s bedtime story Where’s Waldo? to the then-Biden administration’s FBI, but because the case was put on hold due to the law enforcement agency spending all of their resources arresting old MAGA grandmothers waving American flags.
Since President Trump’s FBI took over in January 2025, the FBI has deployed cutting-edge technology, including magnifying glasses, highlighters, and even a team of highly trained sniffer dogs. Despite these efforts, Waldo remained at large, prompting many to question the agency’s competence.
“It’s embarrassing,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). “If the FBI can’t even find a guy in a striped shirt hiding in plain sight, how can we trust them to stop terrorists?”
In response to criticism, the FBI pointed to its successful track record of locating other missing figures in the series, including Odlaw and Wizard Whitebeard. “Those guys were easy,” said a spokesperson. “They’re not even wearing camouflage. Waldo, on the other hand, is like a ghost. A ghost in a striped shirt.”
The agency has vowed to continue the search, with Director Patel promising to “leave no pixel unturned.” In the meantime, citizens are encouraged to report any sightings of Waldo to the FBI’s tip line. As one agent quipped, “If a 6-year-old can find him in 30 seconds, surely we can too. Eventually.”
Update: Shortly after press time, a 4th-grader from Nebraska called the tip line and located Waldo in 17 seconds. The FBI has since closed the case, claiming credit for finally spotting the striped-shirt character.
