WASHINGTON– After receiving backlash on social media from his constituents for passing the foreign aid Ukraine bill, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said the reason he passed the foreign aid-only bill was because he wasn’t wearing his glasses at the time he read it and thought the bill said the money was going to the US.
“I couldn’t see, it was an honest mistake, trust me,” wrote Johnson on a Twitter X post that got severely ratioed. “When I read the Ukraine-Israel bill I wasn’t wearing my glasses and I could’ve sworn it said the money was going to America when I agreed to it. Oh shucks, golly gee, my fault. Oh well, I guess we’ll get ’em next time.”
Speaker Johnson also touted his strong conservative record of not really getting anything done worthwhile for the American people, saying at least he pretended to try.
Johnson said this wasn’t the only time he passed horrible things against Americans because he wasn’t wearing his eyeglasses, such as the recent passing of the FISA bill that lets the FBI spy on unsuspecting Americans without a warrant.
“Come on, I’m a politician so you know I’m telling the truth,” said Johnson while doing his obligatory Fox News interview to try and smooth things over with disgruntled Americans. “I’m making a solemn promise to every one of you right now as a Christian, that for now on I’ll wear my glasses whenever making serious decisions that affect Americans. You have my word.”
At publishing time, Johnson had voted with the Democrats to ban Trump from running for president, but quickly came to his own defense and said once again he had forgotten to put on his glasses and thought he was voting to impeach Biden.
