AHCH-TO — In a touching Father’s Day social media post Sunday, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker paid tribute to his father, Darth Vader, the Sith Lord best known for severing his son’s right hand, repeatedly attempting to kill him, and helping enforce a tyrannical galactic dictatorship responsible for billions of deaths.
“Happy Father’s Day, Dad,” wrote Skywalker alongside a photograph of Vader cutting off his hand.
The post quickly received millions of likes and supportive comments from users praising Skywalker’s willingness to look past the mistakes of a father who helped oversee planetary destruction, political repression, and countless war crimes.
Skywalker went on to reminisce about the brief, precious moments of quality time they shared, such as when his father stood by and watched the Emperor torture him with high-voltage Sith lightning for several minutes before finally deciding to intervene.
“People only remember the hand thing,” Skywalker later explained. “Nobody talks about the good times. Like when he stopped electrocuting me for a few seconds. Or that one time he threw the Emperor down a reactor shaft. Everybody makes mistakes.”
At press time, Luke Skywalker had reportedly turned off the comments on his post after several users asked why he hadn’t posted anything for Uncle Owen, the man who actually raised him for 19 years before being burned alive by Imperial Stormtroopers under Vader’s direct command.
