SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA — Responding to a growing wave of fraud revelations uncovered by independent journalists, Gavin Newsom announced the formation of a new statewide task force dedicated to ensuring that such discoveries never happen again.
Gov. Gavin Newsom reassured Californians that while fraud itself remains a complex, evolving issue, the real failure was allowing it to become publicly visible, announcing the creation of the Office of Fiscal Obscurity and Auditor Mitigation to address the problem.
“We take fraud very seriously,” said Newsom. “Which is why we are launching an immediate, fully funded initiative to address the systemic breakdown that led to people finding out about it.”
The governor went on to say that exposing massive unemployment fraud rings and the vanishing of billions of dollars is a threat to democracy and that he is doing everything he can to protect Californians from the trauma of knowing how badly they are being fleeced.
At press time, the governor’s office stated that Newsom was also planning on implementing a new “Honesty Tax” on California citizens who failed to participate in the fraud.
