CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – In a move that has left residents both bewildered and unsurprised, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced today that “Lil’ Slim Reaper,” a 32-year-old member of the notorious “Bloods of Englewood” gang, will be the city’s new police chief. The appointment comes as Chicago experiences its highest murder rate in decades, with over 1,000 homicides already this year-many of which remain unsolved.
Lil’ Slim Reaper, whose real name is DeAndre Jackson, has a resume that includes 17 felony arrests, 5 convictions, and a tattoo of a handgun on his neck. His gang nickname is derived from his alleged role in a 2018 drive-by shooting that left three dead and six injured outside a South Side funeral home. Despite this, Mayor Brandon Johnson praised Lil’ Slim Reaper as “a true community leader” who “understands the streets.”
Under Lil’ Slim Reaper’s leadership, the Chicago Police Department will reportedly shift its focus from solving crimes to “reimagining policing” through community outreach programs-primarily involving free handguns and crack cocaine for at-risk youth. When asked how this would address the city’s skyrocketing violence, Lil’ Slim Reaper replied, “Man, them bodies just bodies. We ain’t got time for that. We gotta build trust.”
