NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK– Sesame Street’s beloved red monster, Elmo, has recently shocked fans after announcing that he will be seeking therapy for mental issues after reading through thousands of responses to a post he made on Twitter X asking everyone how they were doing.
In an exclusive interview with Sesame Street News, Elmo revealed that he has been battling with anxiety and depression for the last couple days and says he regrets even logging onto his social media account that day.
“I wasn’t expecting people to dump all their problems on me,” said Elmo, his voice trembling with emotion. “In fact, I didn’t even want anyone to respond. You know, I was really only asking a rhetorical question, like when you just ask someone something but don’t actually want them to give you a response back.”
Elmo’s response has caused a stir on the iconic children’s show, with many of his fellow Muppets wondering how such a cheerful character could have snapped so quickly and that perhaps he’s had rage building up inside of him for a very long time.
“I had a feeling Elmo may have ben struggling behind the scenes,” said longtime friend Big Bird. “Just last week when I passed Elmo in the hallway backstage I told him ‘Hello’ and he said ‘How are you doing?’ back to me. I thought he was really interested, so I unloaded on him and told him about all the nightmares and physical problems I’ve been having from all the LSD I took back in the 1960s. He was staring off into space during our entire three hour conversation.”
Sesame Street producers have also announced that they will be exploiting the situation by incorporating Elmo’s mental illness into future episodes, and will make the little red monster relive the horrific event by devoting an entire episode to just Elmo asking everyone how they are doing and having to sit and listen to a slew of traumatic responses.
