SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA– A male hippopotamus from California has become the first hippo contestant to win a local Miss Tiger beauty pageant, which has only had female tiger winners for the last thirty years.
The San Diego Zoo has held the local beauty pageant for female tigers for the last three decades, but has recently decided that the big cat-dominated contest needed some more diversity.
The hippo has faced some backlash due to taking the title away from all the other cats, but argued that it makes perfect sense being that he identifies and lives his life as a female tiger.
“I’m ecstatic to be the first male hippo to be a local Miss Tiger titleholder,” said the hippo in a loud, baritone voice as he scratched his large balls. “I hope to make everyone proud and become the first masculine hippopotamus who identifies as a female ovaried feline to take the title of most beautiful tiger on the national stage.”
A representative for the zoo told reporters that America will only progress as a society if the country adapts and becomes more inclusive, and have already begun placing lions who identify as antelopes into antelope enclosures.
Democrats have cheered the move, but stated that it’s not enough and have called on the Miss America pageant to start letting hippos enter into the currently human-only contests.
