RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL– To try and attract more tourists, Rio’s tourism board recently put out a new commercial that highlights its plethora of robberies, saying that all the worldwide coverage of the crimes has put them on the map of must-visit places.
The one minute commercial shows a quick montage of hundreds of robberies, including the Olympians who were recently held up, and segues into both robbers and victims hugging each other at the end. In an outdoors interview, tourism board chairman Swarro Joyo told a group of reporters that a majority of Rio’s robbers are merely reaching out for help.
“We figured we’d try and take all the negative publicity and turn it into something more positive,” Joyo said proudly, showing off a t-shirt that read “Robbers are the real victims.” “We would like our American friends to please still come and visit us and know that if you get robbed it is merely a friendly welcome from someone that truly loves you deep down inside.”

In the middle of Joyo’s interview, all the reporters from the United States were robbed at gunpoint by children and then given hugs by their attackers.
“Did you see that?” Joyo asked as the Brazilian cameramen recorded the entire event. “Look at the cute faces on these young ones. All this love is making me caliente inside. I want you all to know that this endearing footage will be in our next commercial. And if you stick around for another ten minutes, the next wave of love will be coming this way.”
At the end of the interview, Joyo stated that anyone traveling to Rio should be careful not to offend any of the population of Rio’s citizens by hiding any valuables or money.
