HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA– Ready to stick your head in the sand? Garfield fans around the world have been protesting over a studio’s decision to replace the lazy, lasagna-loving cat, who plays the iconic role of Garfield, with a ostrich.
As part of Hollywood’s plan to try and integrate a more diverse group of animals into well-known classic movies, the orange cat will find his place taken by an unknown ostrich– who will also be eating lasagna, fighting with Odie, and making sarcastic comments to his owner.
“It was about time we did away with all the typical, clichéd actors,” said 59 year old producer James Garner. “This new relaunched version of Garfield will give other animals a chance to have the spotlight for a change. Cats have dominated Hollywood for too long and it’s about time we got some more diverse species into our movies.”
The ostrich’s ascension to the role of Garfield continues the trend of replacing the traditional orange male felines with animals of different colors. Even though studio execs feel that replacing the part of a cat with an ostrich makes sense, many fans question the integrity of the geniuses in Hollywood.
“Why are they having an ostrich play the part of a cat?” Sarah Kellerman asked, shaking her head. “It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. That’s like putting a hamburger into a hot dog bun. It just doesn’t fit.”
The new movie Garfield: Ostrich Burger will open in theaters in December of this year and will be removed from theaters by January of next year.
