MENTIRA, CALIFORNIA– Famous Internet rumor website Snopes has recently put itself on its own list of sites that they deem to be of questionable origin, stating that it was only fair to do being that Snopes has no formal authority to make such outlandish claims about everyone else’s authenticity and also the fact that Snopes doesn’t technically exist.
In a statement put out by Snopes, the site came under fire after a rumor was posted online by a man named Morpheus who said that Snopes is an urban legend itself and is only in people’s imagination, due to the fact that everyone is living inside some type of simulated reality.
“Yeah, we don’t actually exist,” said Agent Smith, a Snopes agent. “After someone named Morpheus posted a rumor online that the Snopes website is actually a nonentity and basically a figure of everyone’s imagination, we figured it’d be in good faith to finally come clean.”
According to legend, Snopes was launched in 1995 by intelligent machines and has supposedly become the go-to site to distinguish between what’s fact and what’s fallacy. Apparently, the last 21 years have all been a dream.
“It all started when a guy named Neo took a red pill,” Agent Smith said disappointingly, dressed in a black suit. “After he took that pill he woke up inside some sort of liquid-filled chamber where he had been hooked up to machines force-feeding him a fabricated reality. Almost every other person in the world is also unconscious and hooked up inside these chambers where sentient machines feed off their power.”
Due to the fact that most people are still unconscious and believe in the fabricated world where Snopes exists, the website claims that this rumor is only a minor bump in the road and it will continue to judge everyone else on their veracity.
“This’s not gonna stop us,” Agent Smith promised as he straightened his black sunglasses. “Once we find the access codes to the mainframe computer in Zion, we’ll be able to stop Morpheus or anyone else from trying to wake up the rest of the world to this Faketrix that we’ve created.”
