NEW YORK—Responding to yet another church fire this week, Mayor Mamdani held a solemn press conference Tuesday to condemn what he described as the deeply irresponsible decision by the alleged arsonists to ignite the blaze using what officials believe were non-halal certified matches.
The mayor said that investigators were still gathering information regarding the church itself, but went on to criticize the arsonists for their blatant disregard for Islamic law by using uncertified ignition products.
“We must make sure future combustion strictly adheres to halal-only products,” said Mamdani from City Hall. “If you are going to reduce a century-old Christian or Catholic institution to a pile of smoldering ash, you must ensure your incendiary materials do not contain trace amounts of pork fat or non-permissible animal bone glues. The use of non-halal sulfur in our outer boroughs is a slap in the face to our city’s Muslim community.”
Administration officials also encouraged retailers to stock only Muslim-friendly products, calling it “a meaningful first step toward preventing future procurement failures.”
At press time, Mamdani’s office confirmed that any future church arsonists caught using non-halal matches would face a mandatory $150 administrative fine, a penalty the Mayor described as both fair and a necessary step toward a more culturally conscious municipal infrastructure.
