ATLANTA, GEORGIA— The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) elevated Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s annual Fourth of July cookout to a Level 1 Public Health Emergency this weekend after receiving reports that at least one cheeseburger had once again been declared “ready to eat” despite still visibly being identified as a single slice of unmelted American cheese resting gently atop a completely raw, gray block of ground beef.
The emergency declaration came after CDC analysts reviewed the now-infamous grilling photograph that first surfaced in 2024, which experts continue to describe as “the most medically concerning cheeseburger ever photographed outside of a biology textbook.”
“After careful examination, we’ve concluded the slice of cheese appears to have reached a higher internal temperature than the beef underneath it,” said CDC Director Dr. Allison Grant during a hastily assembled press conference. “That’s not normally how cooking works. We are dealing with a Class-4 gastrointestinal event.”
According to eyewitnesses and horrified social media users, the incident began when Schumer, attempting to mimic the behavior of average, non-millionaire human beings, stood in front of a shiny new Weber gas grill.
In response to the emergency declaration, the Department of Homeland Security established a temporary exclusion zone extending 300 feet from the grill while the USDA attempted to negotiate the safe surrender of several hamburgers still believed to be alive.
At press time, Chuck Schumer was reportedly seen trying to relate to black voters by attempting to eat a whole, unpeeled watermelon.
