LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — Hoping to breathe new life into a struggling re-election campaign, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Thursday a bold new electoral strategy of completely dropping out of the mayoral race in order to win over disgruntled voters.
According to campaign insiders, the strategy emerged after internal polling showed Bass receiving her highest approval ratings whenever respondents were asked how they would feel if she were no longer running.
“For months, the people of Los Angeles have made it overwhelmingly clear that they do not want me to serve another term as mayor,” said Mayor Karen Bass at a press conference outside City Hall. “The more voters hear about me exiting the race, the more optimistic they become about the future of Los Angeles. Frankly, it’s the first issue bringing this city together.”
Voters cited their increasing frustrated with the city’s rampant crime, unhoused encampments, and a wildfire season under the leadership of the current mayor.
At press time, Karen Bass’ approval rating had climbed even higher after rumors spread she was considering moving several states away and becoming somebody else’s problem.
