STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN– As a pre-Valentine’s Day surprise, a man in Sweden thought that the best way to make his woman happy would be to give her the ultimate gift: his very own beating heart.
Sven Hjärta, 24, decided to undergo the dangerous surgery in the hopes of saving his rocky relationship with his then girlfriend of three weeks, 23 year old Maja Vacker.
Friends tried to warn Hjärta that giving a woman his heart was a serious commitment and that it should only be given to a woman that he intended to spend the rest of his life with.
“I thought she loved me,” Hjärta said from his hospital bed, hooked up to a machine that allowed his blood to circulate without a heart. “I knew something was immediately wrong when I handed my girlfriend Maja my heart and she told me that we needed to sit down and talk.”
During that talk, says Hjärta, Vacker said that she had met another man who could fulfill her emotional needs more than he could.
“How can any man top giving another woman his heart?” Hjärta asked, holding up a photo of his ex-girlfriend with her new man, Hjärta’s father Erik. “Apparently she was seeing my father the entire time. The worst part is, my father’s the one who urged me to give Maja my heart. He said I’d never find another girl as beautiful as her. Father was right.”
The good news is that, with the help of sophisticated technology, Hjärta will be able to live another happy six months until he dies. The bad news though, is that he can no longer give his heart to another woman.
“She’s ruined me for all future women,” Hjärta sobbed through an optimistic smile. “But at least she’ll still be in my life because she’s decided to marry my father and move in with us. Now I can tell all my friends that I have a hot-looking mom.”
