Lemme tell ya something, folks. I’d be lyin to ya if I said my Pop wasn’t a lil finicky about his meals. Heck, who ain’t, right? Especially when it comes to his fish. Heck, I remember when I was a young boy growing up on our family farm in Texas and my Pop would come home from work every day smellin like a fish factory. Strange thing though, I never remember my Pop even workin in a fish factory. Well, anyways, back to ole Pop.
Yesterday my Ma and Pop came over to my farm in Crawford. They come over every day now around this time. I guess ole Pop never been the same after he retired from politics. Heck, I ain’t been the same since I retired from politics. I remember when I was acting president, I used’ta have my plate filled. Ya know, with desserts and sandwiches and whatever else Ma made me for lunch that mornin. But the best meals of the day were when I punched out at the time-clock in the Oval Office and headed home to Ma’s good ole fashioned fish supper. Didn’t matter what day it was, every day was a new surprise.
Today, when Ma was in the kitchen with Laura, I was sittin on Pop’s lap and he noticed this fish I had mounted on the wall above a shelf that held all my spelling bee trophies. Anyways, ole Pop’s eyes started wellin up when he saw his favorite fish up on the wall, so he yelled at me to go bring him the mounted fish and hand it to him. So, like any good son woulda done, I got up and took the fish off the wall and handed it to Pop. Well, long story short, he beat me upside the head with that fish. Knocked sense into me, he did. So, I drew this here fish drawing with my Pop as inspiration once again. Maybe next time I’ll remember to turn Pop’s wheelchair toward the other side of the living room where Laura keeps photos of all her man friends. GWB
