WASHINGTON– A major escalation in the trade war between the United States and China occurred this week after President Donald Trump upped the ante by publicly recognizing China as “West Taiwan.”
Only hours after the Chinese government responded to Trump’s tariffs by raising their own tariffs on US goods, Trump signed an executive order and showcased a new map of Asia where he stated that from here on out the country of China will be known as West Taiwan. The president then instructed Google to update their maps as soon as possible to recognize the change.
“I told President Xi not to retaliate against my fair, reciprocal tariffs,” said Trump as he held up the new map of Asia. “China made a huge mistake by going against the United States instead of making a big, beautiful deal. That’s why I signed this executive order recognizing China as West Taiwan, not to be confused with the smaller, yet much better East Taiwan.”
Sources within China have confirmed that the Chinese government was livid after hearing the news that Trump had designated them as part of Taiwan, especially since the Chinese Communist Party has been trying unsuccessful for years to take full control of Taiwan.
In a show of force and with no intentions of backing down, President Xi Jinping gave an address to the nation where he came out and said that China will be responding to Trump’s insulting name change to their country by now recognizing the United States as both “South Canada” and “North Mexico.”
No word yet on whether Trump will be renaming China as “South Mongolia.”
