SEATTLE, WASHINGTON– A Seattle man who came up with the idea for an umbrella for an umbrella recently sold his idea to a manufacturing company for $5 million.
The inventor, 45 year old Garth Wayne, claims that he suffered from agoraphobia and had finally left his home after 21 years on a rainy Sunday afternoon. A light bulb went off when he noticed a strange clear liquid falling off his umbrella.
“I couldn’t believe how soaked my umbrella was,” Wayne said to news reporters inside his home, showcasing one of his dual umbrellas. “First thought that came to my mind was “why didn’t I put any clothes on before I left the house for the first time in 21 years” and my second thought was “how the heck didn’t anyone else ever come up with this idea?””
The way the invention works, says Wayne, is by conical coverage, utilizing the top umbrella as a mask for the bottom umbrella. He says that this technique is similar to how socks and shoes work for our feet.
“You don’t go outside with just socks on, do you?” Wayne asked as he opened a few more umbrellas inside of his home. “Just as the shoe covers the sock which covers the foot, the umbrella covers the umbrella which covers our head.”
When asked by reporters if he believes that opening up an umbrella inside of his home is bad luck, Wayne ignored the question by showing them his newest invention.
“This’s my new invention. An umbrella that covers the second umbrella covering the first umbrella. Similar to the way we put a coat over our shirt over our undershirt over our torso.”
