AUSTIN, TEXAS — Following his stunning election defeat Tuesday, outgoing Texas Governor Greg Abbott has reportedly begun reviewing his political career and wondering whether he may have spent too much time working for everyone but the people who actually elected him, sources confirmed.
Abbott, who was defeated by Democrat Gina Hinojosa after more than a decade in office, reportedly spent much of Wednesday examining photographs from his numerous meetings with foreign business executives, immigrant advocacy groups, international delegations and community organizations, trying to determine whether he might have neglected a few people along the way.
“Looking back, maybe I could have spent a little more time focusing on Texans,” Abbott reportedly told advisers while reviewing a photograph of himself celebrating Diwali with Indian business leaders. “I did a lot of great things for the Indian as well as Muslim community. I just assumed Texans would understand why I was selling them out.”
The governor reportedly spent several hours reviewing his administration’s efforts to recruit foreign workers, expand international business partnerships and accommodate the interests of various immigrant communities, before asking whether anyone had considered doing something similar for people who were already living in Texas.
At press time, Abbott was reportedly considering one final outreach initiative aimed at winning back disgruntled Texas voters, but had asked staff to first determine whether the program could be sponsored by an international business consortium and accompanied by a traditional Diwali celebration.
