RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA — In an embarrassing mix-up that election officials are calling an unfortunate failure of communication, a Democrat operative reportedly dropped off several boxes of fake ballots early Wednesday morning, apparently unaware that the election had already been called and Democrats had secured a decisive victory.
According to witnesses, the unidentified operative arrived at a local election office carrying multiple boxes of completed ballots, insisting that they be counted immediately. The situation reportedly became awkward when officials informed him that the race had already been called, prompting the operative to ask whether they were absolutely sure they wouldn’t need any more votes.
Sources inside the Democratic Party said the operative had been working around the clock in preparation for election night and was simply following the schedule he had been given. Party officials reportedly scrambled to explain that the additional ballots were no longer necessary, although several expressed concern that the operative had made the trip all the way to the polling station for nothing.
“We appreciate his dedication, but unfortunately, we just don’t have a use for these right now,” said one Democratic campaign official, adding that the party had already exceeded its projected vote totals in several key districts. “We were expecting a much closer race. Nobody anticipated we’d win by this much. Frankly, we may have overprepared.”
At press time, the operative was reportedly being asked to hold onto the remaining boxes until further notice, as party officials were still waiting to see whether any other races might need a few additional votes.
