CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS — Pharmaceutical giant Moderna announced Thursday that it is offering a free tombstone to anyone receiving its newly approved mRNA flu vaccine, giving customers an exciting new opportunity to prepare for the possible next stage of their healthcare journey.
The complimentary tombstone promotion is designed to reward loyal customers who are ready to roll the dice on the new mFLUSIVA injection, which was recently approved by the FDA for adults 50 and older.
“We know some Americans have lingering anxiety about mRNA technology, and we hear you,” said Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel. “By offering a high-quality, polished granite headstone with every shot, we are giving our patients the ultimate peace of mind. Now, you can protect yourself from the seasonal flu and cross a major funeral expense off your family’s to-do list at exactly the same time!”
Customers will be able to personalize their tombstones with their names, dates of birth, and preferred final messages. For an additional fee, Moderna will offer premium engraving options such as “I Was Told This One Was Different,” “I Trusted The Science.” and “At Least I Got The Flu Shot.”
Moderna executives emphasized that customers should not interpret the tombstone promotion as an indication that the vaccine is dangerous.
At press time, Moderna had already expanded the rollout, announcing a special rewards program where patients who survive long enough to receive their third mFLUSIVA booster will receive a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a mahogany casket.
