ORLANDO, FLORIDA– Have you ever wondered how some teens get their feet wet in the professional world, gaining experience for a lifetime of employment? Long gone are the days of lazy teen girls sitting on the couch and spending all their time texting while mom and dad supports them. More and more teens are turning to highly physical work as their first jobs in an effort to gain that much-needed employment experience.
According to a survey performed by the National Employment Agency, 89% of teen girls now work on their feet, with the top areas of employment being mail delivery, tour guides, dog walking, flyer delivery, and gas meter readers.
“I’m on my feet all day,” 19 year old Mandy Wiseman said to a reporter as she delivered newspapers by foot. “I’ve never walked so much in my life. By the time I get home my feet are so tired. I just plop down on the couch and put my feet in a bucket of Epsom salts. I never woulda dreamed foot jobs were this hard.”
The National Employment Agency reports that teen girls employed as newspaper delivery workers walk an average of 30 miles a day. The only foot job that surpasses delivery workers in miles walked per day are dog walkers, who average an astounding 40 miles a day on their feet.
“Yeah, my dogs really are barking,” joked 18 year old Jessica Rhodes, pulling on a dog leash with 8 German Shepherds attached to the end of it. “All my friends say I’m crazy for working this hard on my feet all day. Most of them are working behind the counter or in an office. My job may be hard work, but there’s no greater reward than knowing I did the best foot job of my life.”
The National Employment Agency wants to stress that not every teen girl is cut out for foot jobs. A majority of the teens interviewed stated that they were more qualified working hand jobs.
