PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — A local man reportedly attempted to impress his date Friday night by filling his SUV with premium gasoline, a lavish gesture he described as the kind of thing you do when you really want a woman to know you’re doing well.
“I thought about taking her to a nice restaurant, but then I looked at gas prices,” said 34-year-old Kevin Matthews. “I figured I could either spend $120 on dinner or spend $120 putting fuel in my vehicle. At least with the gas, I get something out of it.”
Matthews reportedly pulled into a gas station with his date and confidently selected the premium option, despite normally filling his SUV with regular unleaded.
Matthews reportedly considered stopping at $100 but decided to continue filling the tank after noticing his date watching the pump.
“When it reached $112, I told her, ‘Money’s no object tonight,’” he said. “That’s when I knew I was really making an impression.”
At press time, Matthews was reportedly considering putting a second date on his credit card after realizing he had only enough money left for approximately three gallons of gasoline.
