WASHINGTON– In a bold display of what he called grassroots wealth distribution, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders offered to pay for dinner at a local diner after rifling through his friend’s coat pocket to get the money for the bill.
Witnesses reported that Bernie Sanders was visibly agitated when the restaurant server brought out the check, complaining that the exorbitant food bill of $47.32 was an example of corporate greed.
“This is an outrage,” yelled Bernie Sanders while waving the dinner bill around in the air. “Why should the working class millionaires such as myself have to pay $8 for a plate of meat, vegetables, and dessert while the billionaires hoard all the wealth?”
Just as he was about to walk out of the restaurant without paying the bill, Bernie saw that his dinner companion wasn’t paying attention so he slowly slid his wrinkled hand down the man’s coat pocket to pull out enough money to pay for the dinner and about two weeks worth of groceries.
“That’s okay, don’t worry, tonight’s dinner is on me,” said Bernie slyly as he waved the server back over to their table. “Because you’re such a dear old friend, tonight’s dinner is my treat, but don’t expect me to be this generous the next time.”
After paying the bill with his associate’s stolen money, Bernie turned to his dinner companion and asked if he would at least mind leaving the waiter’s tip.
