OTTAWA, CANADA \u2014 In a landmark update to federal healthcare policy, the Canadian government announced Sunday that it was expanding eligibility for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) to include conservatism, following growing concerns among health officials that an increasing number of Canadians were developing persistent symptoms of right-wing political beliefs.<\/p>\n
Under the newly announced guidelines, Canadians diagnosed with conservatism may now qualify for medically assisted death after demonstrating a sustained pattern of opposition to progressive government policies, immigration initiatives, climate action and other approved national priorities.<\/p>\n
“Conservatism is a serious and increasingly prevalent condition that can have devastating effects on a person’s ability to participate in modern Canadian society,” explained Prime Minister Mark Carney. “We’re seeing more and more Canadians expressing concerns about immigration, government spending, gender ideology and the direction of the country. Unfortunately, some of these individuals have become so entrenched in their beliefs that conventional treatment is no longer effective.”<\/p>\n
Health Canada officials described the move as an important step toward ensuring that Canadians suffering from the condition have access to compassionate healthcare options, particularly those whose symptoms have proven resistant to years of public education and government messaging.<\/p>\n
