SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA – California Governor Gavin Newsom accused President Donald Trump Thursday of attempting to steal elections that Democrats were already trying to steal, warning that the president’s interference threatened to undermine the integrity of the democratic process.

“This is a blatant attempt by President Trump to steal elections that the Democratic Party is trying to steal first,” Newsom told reporters. “We have a system in place, we have people working very hard, and we’re not going to let President Trump come in here and steal what Democrats have every right to steal themselves. Trump’s unconstitutional interference is a direct threat to the sacred, time-honored integrity of the election outcome we already carefully engineered.”

Newsom went on to accuse the Trump administration of weaponizing election security, voter verification, and basic questions about ballot eligibility in an effort to deprive Democrats of their rightful opportunity to determine election outcomes.

Democrat officials across California echoed the governor’s concerns, arguing that Trump’s efforts to challenge the state’s election procedures amounted to an unprecedented attack on democracy, particularly given that Democrats had already invested considerable time and resources into protecting the elections from Republican interference.
