Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/a> reassured Californians that while fraud itself remains a complex, evolving issue, the real failure was allowing it to become publicly visible, announcing the creation of the Office of Fiscal Obscurity and Auditor Mitigation to address the problem.<\/p>\n“We take fraud very seriously,” said Newsom. “Which is why we are launching an immediate, fully funded initiative to address the systemic breakdown that led to people finding out about it.”<\/p>\n
The governor went on to say that exposing massive unemployment fraud rings and the vanishing of billions of dollars is a threat to democracy and that he is doing everything he can to protect Californians from the trauma of knowing how badly they are being fleeced.<\/p>\n
