ITALY \u2014 In a dramatic mid-Games development, several members of Team USA announced Sunday that they are formally requesting political asylum in Communist China, citing unsustainable levels of personal liberty and chronic exposure to personal choice back home.<\/p>\n
The athletes held an emotional press conference in which they pleaded with Chinese President Xi Jinping to grant them entry into what they described as a more decision-managed society, claiming they can no longer endure what they called the suffocating oppression of American freedom.<\/p>\n
“We just can\u2019t take living in America anymore,” said freestyle skier Hunter Hess, wiping away tears during the press conference. “In America, you\u2019re constantly forced to decide things and make choices. It\u2019s exhausting. In China, many decisions are made for you. That\u2019s called support.”<\/p>\n
The defecting athletes also criticized U.S. immigration enforcement policies while praising China\u2019s streamlined and permanent forced labor accommodations, which they described as very efficient after briefly skimming a government brochure.<\/p>\n
In response, the Chinese government released a statement saying it would be proud to provide a safe environment for the Team USA athletes, free from the instability of open debate, and promised their voices would be heard in an orderly, pre screened, and pre approved manner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
